Does Epoxy Resin Work for Smoothing 3D Print Lines?

Will table top resin work for filling in print lines and strengthening joints on a 3d printed prop? Instead of pouring a table finish with this clear epoxy resin, I brushed two layers over a complex 3d printed trident to see what kind of results I could get with minimal effort.
