One third of people in emergency accommodation are foreigners with no right to social housing

Minister for Housing Eoghan Harris admitted to Pat Kenny that one third of families in emergency accommodation in Ireland being put up in hotels are foreigners with no right to social housing in Ireland. Housing Agency Chief Executive John O'Connor says they should not be deported.

Today it was revealed that a homeless Irishman is in a serious condition in hospital after the tent he was sleeping in was removed from the banks of the Grand Canal by an industrial vehicle. In response, Eoghan Murphy said he had removed his campaign poster from the scene of the incident.

This week an 81 year old woman was discharged from hospital out onto the streets where she was found freezing and scared by a worker for a homeless organisation.
