Camgirls / Pornstars: Doxxing - What It Is, How To Avoid It!
Doxxing is a major issue in the adult industry, and especially when it comes to camming. Camgirls might get doxxed out of malicious intent, or they might actually get doxxed by accident by an ignorant fan or customer! Doxxing can occur on social media, on the camming and clip sites, forums and communities and other places. Here's information on how to prevent doxxing and how to deal with it.
Blog Version: https://webcamstartup.com/doxxing/
What Is Doxxing: Doxxing is where your identity and personal information is exposed. Doxxing is usually intentional, but it does happen by accident as well. Whether malicious or not, it's a major issue. Privacy is a huge concern for camming models and for good reasons! There's a lot of creepers out there, and there's also a lot of stigma towards sex work.
How Pornstars Get Doxxed: There's a lot of things that lead to doxxing. It could be another model after a falling out that might have 2257 documentation on file. It could be a customer who got the contact information through a payment app. It could be a customer who finds the personal social media accounts of a model. It could be an ex boyfriend/girlfriend after a falling out. It could be someone you know personally who sees you in porn.
How To Avoid Being Doxxed:
What's Their Reasoning: First off, is this malicious or not. It could be someone you know personally who sees you online and shares it without understanding the consequences. If this is the case, the 1st step should be to contact them and explain why it's not okay.
Reporting The Doxxing: If you can't get the person to remove the information themselves, you can report it to various places. Most the camming and clip sites will have a zero-tolerance policy towards doxxing and will react accordingly. Same with social network sites as well. Twitter, where a lot of doxxing occurs, has a report feature where you can report someone for posting private information. There's even a list where you can indicate what type of information is being removed. Twitter will even suspend accounts over this.
Blocking Specific Words From Chat: Some of the camming sites (MyFreeCams in particular) you can block specific words. This means that you can block your legal name, as well as any real life nicknames. You can also block other terms, like your city, street name, ect.
Regional Blocking: It's smart to use the regional blocking capabilities. In addition to blocking your home region, if you know where the people who are trying to dox you are located at, you can block their region as well.
Blocking / Reporting: Most sites will allow you to block individual users. You can also report the individual to the site(s) and get their entire IP banned.
Pursuing Legal Actions: Doxxing is illegal in most places and legal action is a possibility. Not only can leveraging the law help mitigate the doxxing issue, but the sites are more likely to take the situation seriously if there' legal action or pending legal action in place.
Being Doxxed By An Ex: You never think about it while going out with someone. How could your significant other possibly do anything malicious against you? But it happens. They'll log onto social media and dox you on their accounts, they'll log onto your camming site and clip sites, they'll harass you anywhere possible.
Going To The Police: It is possible to go to the police, although with internet crimes (especially adult industry) it's very hit or miss. If the situation is putting you in danger, however, this is something you should definitely consider.
No Contact Order: If you get a no contact order placed against the person doxxing you, suddenly it's no longer just a doxxing issue, there's also now a court-ordered no contact order.
