Since 2017 there has been a push from major social media outlets and search engines like YouTube and Google to restrict free speech and the type of information that nay run counter to mainstream narrative. This shift included a change of algorithm which only brings up mainstream sources when words like hoax, crisis actors or staged events are type into the search engines.

A huge part of this change was due to one of the top YouTubers Pewdiepie and his content labeled hate speech. After Wall Street Journal reported on this the change begin.
