Lima 204736A8 Class 60 Diesel Locomotive 60008 Loadhaul OO Gauge Review HD
My second model train review and this one is a Lima Class 60 that is numbered as 60008 in the black and orange Loadhaul livery and is named as "Gypsum Queen II" as per the actual locomotive was in the mid to late 1990's. 60008 was one of the 5 Class 60 diesel locomotives that wore the Orange/Black full Loadhaul livery between 1995 to 1997 when EWS took over from Loadhaul, Mainline and Transrail. The other Class 60's to wear this livery at the time was 60007, 60025, 60038 and 60059 respectively.
I have upgraded this Lima Class 60 as I have painted the grilles with some flat matt black paint to "tone" down the unrealistic grey whilst maintaining the view of the moulded radiator parts. I have added some replacement wipers as there was only two that came with the model as evident due to a glue mark where I attached them. I only need two ploughs and a lighting kit to finish off this model as I will be added a driver in the cab just in time for the next model train running session that will be up this month.
The performance on this example is very responsive considering that this model train has a ringfield motor. These Lima model trains can be obtained for a good deal and hence their low cost, these models are ideal for updating to bring them inline with the newer mid range model train.
Being a realist here. The Lima Class 60 will not match the sheer high quality and performance of the premium Hornby model. But the Lima model is ideal for those on a budget and may not be able to afford the superior Hornby example.
