It appears that Michael Calabrese was staying "off grid" due to possible retribution from within his own Navy Special Forces community. It seems likely that they were responsible for threats made against his boat and it subsequently being torched, having become aware of his teams involvement in 9/11.
There didn't seem to be any action taken against anyone over it, despite Calabrese giving the name of the person/ persons to the police.
Calabrese was found dead on May 24 2012, floating in a harbor in Camden, North Carolina. The odd thing was that his body was floating vertically, not horizontally, indicating it had been weighed down. Though Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry called the death “suspicious,” it was officially ruled an accident.
One interesting thing is the name of his boat "Maybe Tomorrow" it's the same name as a song by the Stereophonics that featured in a couple of movies.
The lyrics of the song are interesting - I think they contain something he identified with and he does mention the phrase "Maybe Tomorrow" when being interviewed.
It's played during the credits at the end of the Academy Award-winning movie Crash (2004)
Maybe Tomorrow
Stereophonics
I've been down and I'm wondering why
These little black clouds keep walking around
With me
With me
It wastes time and I'd rather be high
Think I'll walk me outside and buy a rainbow smile
But be free
They're all free
So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I'll find my way home
I look around at a beautiful life
I've been the upper side of down
Been the inside of out
But we breathe
We breathe
I wanna breeze and an open mind
I wanna swim in the ocean
Wanna take my time for me
All me
So maybe…
