The GM of Delta MVCD collaborating with Oxitec for GE Mosquito experiment
Hi Mr. Mustapha Debboun,
How, as General Manager of DMVCD do you not have the answers to how the Board of Trustees was nominated, the R&D construction for Oxitec in Visalia, and the number of deaths caused by mosquito-borne illnesses in your county? Have you or your department received any funding (federal or State) with regard to this collaboration with Oxitec? How much have you received for special programs/mosquito abatement from federal/state funding, and how much (if any) from NGO’s or Oxitec (and/or its parent-company)?
It is not hard to find this information when you are a concerned constituent. Please show me the data and science that YOU as a decision-maker are relying upon to approve this experiment in your county.
"The pilot study was not intended to determine how well the method suppresses the wild population. Oxitec plans to gather that data in an extension of the Florida Keys study. It first needs approval from state regulators, but hopes to begin soon. The company plans to release mosquitoes at a second study site in Visalia, California, where it is building a research and development facility."

"In anticipation of this research approval, the Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District (Delta MVCD) seven-member elected Board of Trustees issued a unanimous vote of approval in October 2021 to partner with Oxitec to carry out focused projects in areas that are part of the Delta MVCD’s jurisdiction.
Oxitec is also developing an R&D facility in Visalia, which will provide support to Oxitec programs in the US and globally.
Dr Mustapha Debboun, General Manager of the Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District said: "With mosquito and vector-borne diseases a growing concern in California, we see Oxitec’s technology as an important additional option to control the invasive Aedes aegypti mosquito. We look forward to working in partnership with Oxitec and have been impressed with results from their previous projects in Brazil and the Florida Keys. They have proven the effectiveness that their biological solution can deliver in suppressing this non-native invasive and disease-spreading mosquito.”"

I have a family that I love dearly. I am concerned about the “surge” in dengue fever TWO YEARS after Oxitec’s first experimental releases in both Brazil and India. I would expect that as a parent, you might also share my concern. You do realize the EPA has conflicts of interest and a revolving door between industry and its own regulatory agency, correct? You don’t need to look much further than the corruption with Monsanto’s RoundUp.
Thank you,
Kat
