Unsupervised — and occasionally rowdy — teens have been an issue at Northgate Mall for years, but it seems that the blitz on Thursday may have been part of a nationwide trend, and possibly a new yearly tradition at malls.
Brawls and unruly teens were reported at several malls all over the country Thursday.
Two malls in Stockton, California, were shutdown Thursday night, officials said. The Stockton Police Department said disturbances began at one mall, and then the juveniles traveled to a second mall where things continued.
Similar disturbances were reported at three malls in Connecticut, according to CTPost.com. "Huge fights" were reported at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford, Connecticut, where the same thing occurred last year.
Also on Thursday, police in Omaha, Nebraska, resorted to firing pepper balls into a crowd of teens after a melee broke out at the Westroads Mall, WOWT reported.
That same day at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth, Texas, mall-goers said they heard a gunshot when dozens of juveniles caused chaos in a food court and knocked over a large holiday display, according to WFFA.
A large fight involving a crowd of teens was reported at the Circle Centre Mall in Indianapolis on Black Friday this year.
