Max Stirner - Der wahre Mensch (The real Man)
"Ich will, was ich SOLL?"
"I want what I SHALL?" "A human being is called to nothing, and has no task, no destiny - just as little as a plant or an animal has a 'calling'. The flower does not follow the 'calling' to complete itself - but it turns all its powers on the world to enjoy as best it can.... Much more mightily will a man intervene in the world than flower or animal."
Max Stirner: Der Einzige und sein Eigentum, 1845.

English translation of the book: https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/max-stirner-the-ego-and-his-own
(The English translation is not exactly stunning. E.g., the German word "Der Einzige" simply means "the Only One" - insofar as every human being is unique -, but in the translation it becomes "the Ego".)
To put it bluntly: Max Stirner has nothing to do with communism, socialism, Marxism, nihilism, materialism. Stirner's egoist is not the savage who lives out his nature ruthlessly, but the individual who has freed himself from INNER libidinal, religious, legal, moral, social, ethnic constraints in order to come to himself and stand on his own two feet. Stirner's point of view is the Anschauende Urteilskraft, Goethe's "Seeing the Idea with Eyes", Fichte's "New Organ", Steiner's "Holy Spirit".
