France: Yellow Vests march for 20th week in a row despite bans
Thousands of Yellow Vests protesters marched through the streets of Paris on Saturday for the 20th week in a row, despite bans announced throughout the country.
"Mr. Macron gave us nothing, and won't give anything, so we are still here. Is this a trench war? It's not a trench war; we have to express our discontent, especially regarding the purchasing power of the retired people, which is unacceptable. It's been 8 years since I am retired, and my pension has increased 0.3 percent, while the inflation keeps going up," said Alain, one of the protesters.
Demonstrators also showed solidarity with Genevieve Legay, a 73-year-old activist who was criticised by Macron after suffering a head injury during a protest in Nice last weekend. Footage shows one protester carrying a poster reading "I am 76 years old, I protest."
The demonstrations are being held against French President Emmanuel Macron's economic policies as the second phase of the "Grand National Debate" is expected to continue in the next few days.
