Mahlstedt began his DJ career in 1987 at the Berlin club Beehive. Through the organizers he also got to Hamburg and became resident DJ at the Opera House for a long time. From 1989, he also performed regularly in his hometown of Bremen and, together with Steve Bug, organized the T-Dance once a month at the Disco Modernes there from 1993. In Bremen Mahlstedt also began his regular composition work for the theater. During Mahlstedt's appearance at the Love Parade in 1992, he met producer Gerret Frerichs (Humate), who offered him his help with his own productions. During the following years of collaboration, among many other productions, the single Loops & Tings was released under the name Jens, which became one of the biggest techno hits from the German area. In the meantime, more than 40 remix versions of this track exist.
