China says the #Galwan Valley where Chinese and Indian troops were engaged in a deadly clash falls entirely within its territory, as Beijing blamed New Delhi for the June 15 military clash at the border that left 20 Indian soldiers dead. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a statement on Friday that the #Galwan Valley, which is part of the disputed Ladakh region, is located on the #Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (#LAC) - the de facto border between the two Asian rivals. Zhao accused India of violating the agreement the two countries had reached on June 6 regarding the LAC, calling it a "deliberate provocation" on New Delhi's part.

Chinese soldiers took "premeditated and planned action" that was directly responsible for Monday's clash at Galwan valley, in which 20 Indian soldiers died, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar told his China counterpart Wang Yi in a phone conversation on Wednesday. Later on Wednesday, in response to a Chinese commander's claim on Galwan valley that was read out at the Chinese Foreign Ministry's briefing, India's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, "As we have conveyed earlier today (Wednesday), External Affairs Minister and the State Councillor and Foreign Minister of China had a phone conversation on recent developments in Ladakh. Both sides have agreed that the overall situation should be handled in a responsible manner and that the understandings reached between Senior Commanders on June 6 should be implemented sincerely.

Indian Army says 20 soldiers killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan area.
Sources said the Indian Army patrol had set out to check on positions of the Chinese troops to ensure they had retreated. The troops were attacked by a much larger group of Chinese soldiers, said the sources, who did not wish to be identified. The standoff had begun with a scuffle in the Pangong Tso area on the intervening night of May 5/6, resulting in serious injuries on both sides.

The sources said that at the Galway area, limited “disengagement” had begun earlier and such limited de-escalation at PP 15, 17A and Gogra areas was agreed at the Corps Commander level. The sources asserted that in areas, except the Finger 4 area of Pangong Tso, were seeing some disengagement and could be resolved at the local level. Pangong Tso remains a major area of concern where Chinese troops have moved up to Finger 4 area and dug in on Indian territory.
