Ein Heller und ein Batzen-German Folk Song + English translation
Old German folk song; words: Albert Graf von Schlippenbach 1830, probably a translation of an older Swedish folk song;
music: folk song; originally a drinking song and song for student fraternity, later also marching and hiking song,
was also interpreted by many German schlager and folk music singers
A penny and a buck, they were both mine, yes mine.
The penny went for water, the buck went for wine.
Chorus
Heidi, heido, heida, heidi, heido, heida,
heidi, heido, heida
The barkeepers and the girls, both shout: Oh no!
The barkeepers when I come, the girls when I leave.
My boots are ripped, my boots have come apart.
And out on the heath a bird sings freely.
And were there no country roads, I'd be sitting quietly at home.
And were there no hole in the cask, I wouldn't be drinking from it.
Wasn't it a great joy when the Lord God created him.
A guy like velvet and silk; just a pity that he drank.
(En Slant och en Riksdaler) das aus dem 17. Jahrhundert stammt;
in "Allgemeines Deutsches Kommersbuch" 1858 veröffentlicht,
