Hey kids (of all ages), it's Saturday Morning Cartoon time again!
Way back before some asshat decided that every single thing in popular culture needed a "gritty reboot", Archie and his friends were THE stereotypical, wholesome, American teenagers hanging-out at the malt shop and getting into all manner of hijinks, featured in comic books from the early 1940s onward.
In the late 1960s, Flimation (the TV animation studio that would be built primarily on properly licensed properties like this) produced a cartoon series featuring Archie and the Riverdale gang. In the wake of the live-action MONKEES, The ARCHIE SHOW had the characters perform as a band called The Archies. Also like the Monkees, the Archies scored hits on the real world music charts, especially "Sugar, Sugar" which hit #1.
Archie was a big success for Filmation, and they went on to produce various incarnations of the show over a decade. (Don't let the "Everything's Archie" theme confuse you. That title was recycled for the Archies' album and the 1973 version of the show.)
THE ARCHIE SHOW spun-off SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH and THE GROOVIE GOOLIES for Filmation. And, weirdly enough, JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS for rival studio Hanna-Barbera. (A relatively unusual excursion into licensed properties for them.) Josie existed in the same world as Archie in the comic books, but shared a world with Scooby-Doo on Saturday Morning TV.
So here is the first episode of THE ARCHIE SHOW from September 1968.
