Musical Interlude: Bread, Freedom, Social Justice - Ramy Essam
'Bread, Freedom, Social Justice' is the anthem of the Arab Spring by Egypt's exiled rocker, Ramy Essam, who was tortured by security forces. Essam's later video mocking Egypt's Western-backed dictator Sisi, saw the video's director Shady Habash arrested for "terrorism and fake news", dying two years later in a maximum security prison.

Bread means life to an Egyptian,
Nourished in civilization's cradle,
When he thirsts with clouded vision,
Egypt's people fill his ladle.
Bread means life to an Egyptian,
Nourished in civilization's cradle,
When he thirsts with clouded vision,
The Nile will rise and fills his ladle.
Bread, freedom, social justice!
A loaf for the peasant and worker,
A loaf of bread, not a loaf of scorn,
Rights come later, first comes corn.
A loaf for the peasant and worker,
A loaf of bread, not a loaf of scorn,
Ready or not, we'll take our corn!
Bread, freedom, social justice!
When you say a word like “freedom”
Then you've got to raise your fist,
Freedom is the bread worth eating,
Rights come later, freedom first.
When you say a word like “freedom”
Then you've got to raise your fist!
Freedom is the bread worth eating,
Ready or not, we'll come for this!
Bread, freedom, social justice!
A word about Yemen's Iron Lady, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel-prize-winning activist of the Arab Spring and founder of "Women Journalists Without Chains" - her website features many badly translated articles from her Facebook posts in which she advocates secular democracy using Islamic arguments, calculated to appeal to an Islamist or devout Muslim audience rather than a Western reader. Tawakkol responded to the Muhammad cartoon controversy with the statement "we are not to call for tyranny and bans on freedom." Karman was supportive of protests demanding Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi's resignation on June 30, but was critical of the military's decision to oust Morsi, suspend the Constitution of Egypt and bar the Muslim Brotherhood from participating in Egyptian politics, citing that Morsi was Egypt's first democratically elected leader, the constitution was supported by 60% of people who voted in a public referendum and that the coup may cause people to lose faith in democracy, allowing extremist groups to thrive.
The Facebook Oversight Board is bullshit because a corporation has privatized the public square and awarded itself arbitrary rights of censorship, not because Tawakkol is a bad choice.
