If polite society collapses, gunpowder cartridges may become unavailable as your stockpile runs out warding off hedonist thugs--the muscle-powered, bow and crossbow and the slingshot that shoot re-usable projectiles become must-haves for James Bond Citizens (JBCs).
Unless on active HD guard duty with the crossbow "strung & loaded" the slingshot, bow & crossbow have to be drawn 1st before firing--YES, the 21-foot Personal Defense Zone (PDZ) stand-off has to be maintained to load & fire at attackers. These weapons are effective beyond the PDZ, which is good.

The attack taking place within the PDZ is very problematical; if you can't keep him/they away at a safe 21 foot plus stand-off perhaps because your pepper spray MISSED as befell a Navy veteran who got gunned-down by a fake leftard "security guard" in Colorado. You can stockpile a huge amount of affordable .22LR ammo to mitigate against running out during long-term HD and it can be fired through 12 gauge shotgun and AR15/M16/M4 adapters through longer barrels out to 100 meter ranges.
So we can conclude the FSS can be a NON-LETHal EDC option if there is enough PDZ to draw the sling and hold the projectile.
For HD, the bow and cross-bow which will likely be fired beyond the PDZ from your home's front or back porch and their ammo can be re-used make them must-haves for JBCs.
