3rd Grade Math 4.6, Associative Property of Multiplication

The Associative Property of Multiplication states that when the grouping of the factors change, the product is the same. We can change the grouping so the numbers are easier to multiply or are multiplication facts we already know. We discuss how the multiplication facts in parentheses are multiplied first, and how it doesn't matter how the factors are grouped, the product will be the same. We use the Commutative and Associative Properties together to change the order of the factors and the grouping. We find an unknown factor by regrouping. We use multiplication, addition, and subtraction to solve a word problem with data in a bar graph.
