'Multiculturalism has increased sexual assault' | Self Defence Ireland
Ahead of National Self Defence Day For Ladies in Ireland on June 23rd to launch a new initiate to offer free self-defence classes to women, Paul Williams who teaches classes at John Kavanagh's Straight Blast Gym told the Claire Byrne Show that he believes multiculturalism has increased the rate of sexual assault in Ireland and women should learn techniques to avoid being raped.
"We've become such a multicultural society now and women are preyed on more."
Williams said his 13 year old niece was out with her friends when she was grabbed and an attempt was made to bundle her into a white van but she got away.
For many years he kept quiet but when he met Ruth Maxwell, another sexual assault survivor, he decided to help out with offering free weekly self-defence classes to women at Straight Blast Gym.
Maxwell had narrowly avoided being brutally raped while walking to work with her headphones in by Polish roofer and serial rapist Slawomir Gierlowski who received 18 years for the assault and two others. He used a hunting knife and duct tape to carry out his assault.
