Infernax - Playthrough Part 6 (Ending)

The Kadjanto Stronghold required the use of all mobility spells to complete. Here you find the last spell - Light Weapon, which allows you to shoot projectiles as you hit with your mace. This is somewhat useful against the level boss Alastor - a fish-like abomination, which springs from the acid and throws multiple fireballs at you. This is not a difficult fight and with its defeat the door to the cathedral is finally open. I tried looking for other side quests, but there was nothing left and I faced the demon in there called Belphegor, who looks like a typical devil. His attacks are predictable, but he deals a ton of damage - 4 health points even with the holy armour. I advise using the Light Weapon spell here and keep him away from you. Eventually you succeed and get an ending detailing Alcedor's heroic sacrifice, but also reminding you that the true mission is not done. I guess killing that first person really locked me out of the better endings, which is rather mean. This of course means that I have to replay the game and get attacked by a powerful demon early on. This isn't that big of an issue, but as fun as Infernax is I have other games to play. You also obtain a secret code, which when entered at the correct place gives you a jet pack to fly around and possibly avoid some of the trickier platforming.

Overall Infernax is a fantastic game with great homages and humour. The controls are tight and the combat is engaging. While the jump is effective, I found myself dying from nasty platforming more than enemies. In some places there are difficulty spikes. The mobility skills like the upward thrust and the charge hit are functional, but cumbersome to use. The moral choices are a cool concept, but it looks like a single mistake can lock you out of a lot of side quests and content. There's tons of replayability value to see how things change as you take different paths. I'd definitely recommend this title to fans of Metroidvania games.
