When reading scripture and the prophetic tradition, it is important to read holistically, expansively, and for depth, avoiding unhealthy attachments to previous readings, to scholars, and to their interpretive frameworks. Of course, we take benefit from those who came before us, and honor the learning process and tradition of seeking and sharing, but justice always requires deep honest assessment of the most complete data sets and utilization of the best tools, old and new, to read and analyze, and behave in a healthy, just, sharp-minded, full-hearted manner. Only then can we see clearly and avoid behaving unjustly toward ourselves and others, a catastrophe we hope to avoid, in all instances.
