Star Trek - Judgment Rites is a point-and-click adventure, developed and published by Interplay, which is based on the original Star Trek series. It was first released for PC only, but in 1995, an enhanced CD version was released which also came out for classic Mac. The new version features voice acting by the original cast.
The game is a sequel to Interplay's first adventure, Star Trek - The 25th Anniversary. It follows the concept of its predecessor: the game is divided into several episodes which are isolated mini-adventures. They are introduced like normal episodes of the TV series. Over the course of the game, you will get to know a background story which ties together all of the events.
In each episode, an away team is sent to a location consisting of several screens. You control Kirk who is always part of the team. Other members can be ordered to do things via the use icon. Naturally, Spock comes into play regarding the analysis of all kinds of things, for example, and McCoy cares about medical tasks. After you complete an episode, you get an evaluating you well you performed: there are multiple outcomes for every episode and multiple ways to solve puzzles. You get score penalties for non-optimal solutions or not reaching important goals. Furthermore, the score goes down for non-Starfleet behaviour, like unnecessary violence, being to reckless or disregarding core principles.
Between missions, you take control of the Enterprise. You can run into fights with other starships, which play similar to space flight shooters like Wing Commander. You can deactivate the fights, if you like, then you will only have an encounter if you travel to the wrong location for the current mission.
Fun fact: this was Interplay's last Star trek adventure game. In 1997, Interplay announced a third game called "Secret of Vulcan Fury". After several years of delays, it was finally cancelled. See for example: http://www.vulcanfury.com/
