Nostalgic 2002 Tour of the Panasonic Museum in Osaka, Japan
Imagine that you've stepped back in time to the year 2002 when numerous technological advances that we take for granted today were being introduced to the marketplace in rapid succession, such as SD memory cards, plasma television sets, and GPS navigational systems. One of the key contributors to the technological revolution has been Panasonic, a well-established market leader in consumer electronics products.
In 2002 the museum that I visited that is located in Osaka was known as the Panasonic Hall of Science and Technology, and I received detailed information about the exhibits and artifacts from an English-speaking tour guide who was assigned to me and a trio of business executives from Malaysia. Our tour included most of the exhibits located on the second and third floors that focused on communication and information, green technology, medical instruments, and semiconductors.
Midway during the tour, we were also granted entrance to Panasonic's Audio Visual Theater room that featured audio speakers manufactured under the Technics product label that cost over 3.3 million yen apiece (over $30,000 if converted using today's currency tables). While seated inside the theater, we watched part of a music video featuring the very popular New Age artist, Enya.

Looking back, it's interesting to reflect upon previously popular systems such as conventional hard disks and DVDs that have largely given way to solid state drives (SSDs) and cloud-based storage.
