The studio version was recorded on January 3, 1964, released on the 1st UK album "The Rolling Stones", April 17 1964 and on the 1st US album "England's Newest Hit Makers", May 29 1964. Also recorded live on March 16, 1964 at "Granada Theatre" in England and released on "December's Childrens (And Everybody's)" in 1965. This particular song's "December's Children" album is from London Records, catalogue nummer 820 135-2, which has a longer outtro, with Mick Jagger saying thanks to the audience.
Bobby Troup wrote this song. Nat King Cole had a big number one hit with it in the US in 1946.
Chuck Berry recorded his version in 1961. It got the attention of The Rolling Stones, who covered it in 1964 and made it a regular part of their stage show. It only charted in Canada in January 1965, where it reached # 9. Hurray for Canada I'd say!

I was very surprised with the introduction because I knew that Bobby Troup was married to a magnificent singer (and beauty) by the name of Julie London... and this lady was clearly not Julie London. First name Cynthia. This Mrs. Bobby Troup told me this tale about when she was the first wife of Troup: They were living modestly in Lancaster, Pennsylvania at the end of World War II and Bobby Troup had decided that 'if I'm going to make it in the music business I've got to go to LA.'
