William Strauss & Neil Howe’s historical analysis in two books (written in 1990 & 1997) analyzed cyclical behavioral patterns in society going back to the mid-1400’s. They predicted in 1990 that a new crisis phase, a Fourth Turning, would be triggered by a major event in the mid-2000’s and the perceived threat would lead to fundamental transformation, possibly through a massive war. Will society perceive the threat to be a threat to security or a threat to individual liberty?
