Richard Marx - Angelia
In the late 80's there was no one hotter on the radio then Richard Marx. The little man with a HUGE talent had his 7 first singles hit the top 5 on Billboard's Hot 100 reaching 3, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 4.
In 1989 the chart success continued as he released the heartbreaking power ballad "Angelia". The song received significant airplay and is considered one of Marx's best. Richard Marx based the sound of "Angelia" on Def Leppard's 1983 album Pyromania and the 1987 album Hysteria. During recordings of "Angelia", engineer and co-producer David Cole along with Richard Marx tried to copy the sounds of the guitars and drums that Def Leppard and producer "Mutt" Lange had used on the Hysteria and Pyromania records.
Richard Noel Marx (born September 16, 1963) is an American adult contemporary and pop/rock singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer who has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.
Marx was born in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Ruth (née Guildoo), a former singer, and Dick Marx, a jazz musician and founder of a successful jingle company in the early 1960s. He attended North Shore Country Day School. He has three half-siblings from his father's previous marriage.
Over the course of his career, Marx has sold over 30 million records. He had a stream of hit singles during the late 1980s and 1990s, including "Endless Summer Nights", "Hold On to the Nights", "Right Here Waiting", "Now and Forever", a murder ballad "Hazard", and "At the Beginning" with Donna Lewis. Much of Marx's early work, such as "Don't Mean Nothing", "Should've Known Better", "Satisfied", and "Too Late to Say Goodbye", exhibited a classic rock style.
He has also written or collaborated on songs with other artists such as "This I Promise You" by NSYNC and "Dance with My Father" by Luther Vandross. The latter song won several Grammy Awards. His 14th number one single, "Long Hot Summer," performed by Keith Urban, gave Marx the distinction of having a song he wrote or co-wrote top the charts in four different decades.
