Bite The Bullet - Playthrough Part 1

Tried Bite The Bullet - a 2D run and gun game where there are tons of mechanics around eating your enemies and items in the environment. You play as the mercenary Chewie (or Chewella) who is sent to a devastated Earth to obtain the DNA of some mutants by eating them. Eating different things gives you different abilities and occasionally makes you fatter. Each enemy/item has different ingredients, but this is hard to keep in mind in the heat of battle, so I decided to eat everything when possible. There's an upgrade system giving you different perks, but there's so many of them, that's it's confusing. I've only discovered 2 weapons so far - your regular gun and a shotgun, the latter of which is not very useful despite the better damage, since the spread can often miss enemies who move. I've found a place in one of the levels where you can upgrade your weapons by adding perks and you can also find pick ups which better their stats in general. Then there's the visuals - the pixel art is decent, but they've added so many effects on top of it, that it's actually difficult to look at and even spot some enemies and projectiles. This is a huge issue for this type of game where each important element should be clearly defined and easy to recognise. The levels also tend to go on for a bit longer than expected.
