Ayn Rand (1905–1982) was a Russian-American writer. Rand wrote two best-selling novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. She hated the poor, hated altruism, said compassion and altruism was a weakness, and Rand is oft admired by many politicians on the right including Paul Ryan. She developed a philosophical system she named Objectivism.
