Natural Mystic Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus polyrhizus and Hylocereus undatus. This variety was introduced to Florida by import from Thailand where it is grown small scale commercially in Homestead. It is a consistent producer of red-fleshed fruit that typically weighs 1 pound. The fruit is semi-sweet with an average brix rating of 15. It is excellent eaten fresh but even better chilled. I particularly like it chilled and cubed on top of salad. Once mature it is a heavy producer of flower buds. To get even larger Dragon Fruit I would recommend hand pollination and bud thinning. When flowers appear the pollen it is a great choice for other varieties that do not set fruit on their own. Mature stems have meaty flesh that is three sided and medium-sized spins. In 2016 this variety produced one of the largest fruit I have ever seen. The fruit weighed over 2 pounds and had a brix rating of 19 with an amazing watermelon flavor. This variety was acquired from a grower in Louisiana.
