DC Comics February solicitations are in. There’s one thing that stands out above everything else. Writer Brian Michael Bendis’ influence and power at DC Comics is growing by the month. He’s credited for writing a whopping 7 new releases. Wonder Comics imprint, which he’s basically the creative director, is releasing 3 more comics he has control over.
When February’s new DC Comics are released Brian Michael Bendis will be writing or have direct control over 10 of the 72 new comics DC release, by my count. Bendis will be responsible for the production of 14% of all new DC Comics. That number is ridiculous for any writer. Let alone one who is failing as miserably at producing competent comic stories, like Brian Michael Bendis is.
Of DC Comics 9 debut issues, Tom Taylor’s DCeased sequel, Unkillables, is most definitely the most important. And the one DC readers are likely most looking forward to. New Batman writer James Tynion is writing one of the short stories in DC’s Valentine’s Day special Crimes of Passion. The Green Lantern Season 2 launches with a number 1 issue. Despite featuring the exact same creative team and seemingly picking up where The Green Lantern #12 left off. How Marvel-ous of DC Comics. They’re treating Grant Morrison like he’s Mark Waid and Dan Slott now.
