Juliette co-founded Happy Products, Inc., and has successfully marketed Flippy, the original multi-angle soft pillow lap stand. Like many people, she didn’t set out to become an inventor, but she observed that a problem existed for tablet stands and created a unique solution that consumers really like.
Juliette was awarded a patent and was selling the product through Amazon and various catalog service. Flippy wasn’t necessarily setting the world on fire, but sales were going fairly well. Then it happened. Flippy made a QVC appearance and Juliette sold an amazing $500,000 worth of product in just 13 minutes.
Taking notice of Flippy’s success was a company that jumped on Flippy, copied and started selling it without her knowledge or consent, i.e., they infringed upon (stole) her patented product. Juliette also found that large retailers had no qualms working with a company that stole the invention rather than obtaining products from the actual inventor.
