I call bullshit on this one, current mainstream Archaeologists and geneticists keep trying to push the dates back both for the origins of modern humans and for who the ancestor of Neanderthals was.
Clearly from the dates of finds of both the oldest Homo Heidelbugensis skulls and then the later finds of Homo Antecessor from Les Simos De les Huesos (The Pit of Bones) there is no mystery that Neanderthals evolved from Homo Antecessor 400,000 -?Ybp who evolved from Homo Heidelbugensis 800,000-400,000 Ybp who may have evolved from (likely) Homo Erectus 1.8My-70,000 Ybp

The problem with this theory is that there are still people walking around today with Homo Erectus, Heidelburgensis and Neanderthal Teeth but I'm sure those were all excluded from the study to make us all look like one Uniform species (Homo Sapiens) Yes mixed populations are becoming more genetically similar but at the same time the unique genetic variations amoungst those who are non mixed persist even up to this day, in short Article debunked.
