Ankway Solar Fence Lights 4 Pack

This simple but elegant set of four Solar fence or wall lights from Ankway is currently available for just £20.99 and they are very different in appearance from the usual black and rather ugly rivals.
Inside the plain cardboard box, the items were delivered were the four lights, fours sets of screws, four mounting templates, and a well written and extensive User Guide. The four lights were individually packed in bubble wrap and arrived in good order.
The design of these 3.44 x 3.25 x 2.09 inch 93gm lights is unusual and distinctive. The large 2V, 0.42W solar panel and four LED downfacing lights are all contained within a transparent monocrystalline silicon (ie plastic) IP67 waterproof casing. The single control button is situated on the rear of the unit which means the unit has to be taken off the mounting surface to access it. A nuisance but once set most users will not need to touch the button again. The recessed button is easy to locate but does not have a very positive action.
Setting them up is slightly tricky. Some of my set arrived charged with their 600mAh batteries charged and others not. To check, cover the solar panel and press the button on the rear of the unit if the light then comes on then the switch is set to ON. If not, the battery is not charged and the only way to tell is to position the unit in the sun for several hours and test it again. You cannot tell by looking at the button which way it is set. For normal use, they need about eight hours of sunlight to run all night, which will be fine in the summer but less so in the UK winter. Fitting to the wall is simple enough and helpfully a set of templates are included to ensure the screw mounts are correctly sited.
When lit the lights do look very impressive, the User Guide does not tell us their rating in Lumens but the cool white lights seem fine for their purpose. Remember that these are not active security lights and have no motion detection feature. The lights just come on at dusk and go off at dawn.
This set of well priced and unusual garden lights feature an unusual and attractive design which should work well in any garden or patio area.
The Good
Great price
Good Build Quality
The Bad
No access to the control button when mounted
No Motion Detection
