Here's an easy way is to get rid of mosquitos altogether, and you can do it simply with biodegradable dishwater soap.
Dawn dish soap has an ingredient in it that breaks the surface tension of water. This is why they used it during the Exxon Valdez disaster to clean-up marine life and wildlife that had been coated with oil.
It breaks the surface tension of water and thereby enables you to dissipate oil with water and mild dish soap. You can see the effect for yourself when you add a couple of drops of it to greasy water. The grease and oil in it shatters and spreads on contact with the water.
The benefit with mosquito larvae and any other parasitic larvae that is in the water is that it softens the exoskeleton of the mosquito and breaks the cell membrane of the larvae in the water. The larvae egg packages sink to the bottom of the pond, rather than float on the top, and it drowns them without toxic pesticides.
You can also get rid of wasp or hornet's nests using a solution of Dawn dish soap and water in a garden sprayer. It has the same effect by softening their exoskeleton and drowning them in the process, all without using poisonous, toxic pesticides!
