Big Stream Drains Into Ground. Latest Cave Hunt in East Coast Dragon Throat Area. 4-12-20
For some time now, I have been combing an area to find an entrance to a giant cave that I know has to be there. I have found but have not yet been able to fully explore a couple large caves that I believe could lead me to that really large one deeper down, which will require roping off and I would rather wait until my caving friends can come and handle that technical aspect of the exploration of these caves with me. About a year ago, while bushwhacking, I stumbled upon a place where two drainages and one sizeable stream come together and stop. The water from each of these disappears into the ground. I have probed the area extensively and know that there are cavities beneath the surface, but I have yet to find one that is deeper than about 6'. I decided to wait until the area got a day of heavy rain so I could see where the water is actually flowing into the mountain. Today was that day.
It was raining so hard that I had to be very careful so I would not ruin my phone while taking video so the video is not the best. I grabbed as much as I could as quickly as I could without risking my phone. The entire stream you see in the video disappears into the ground in the areas where I was standing. Once the rain passes, I can go back and probe those areas to see if I can find where this river flows down into the mountain and hopefully get the debris cleaned off enough to see inside the opening.
I believe these large drain holes tie into the two large caves I am still needing to explore about a mile away. There is so much water that flows through this pipe that I know the cave has to be massive and it would not surprise me to find at least one underwater lake in there, if I can ever find a way in.
While caves are interesting to me, I much prefer to spend my time exploring above ground. But because I have been finding a lot of caves and things in caves that at least have the potential to have once been components of very large creatures, I keep looking for caves in the hope that they contribute to the mudfossil conversation. At this point, I have no solid answers, but have seen enough inside many previously uncharted caves to make me keep looking for them to observe what is inside them.
I don't know if the East Coast Dragon is a decomposing dragon, but if you want to find out more about it, check out the Mudfossil University channel on youtube.
