Update: 3AM July 8, Pacific time .Japan news reports that Abe has died.(Note: Negative comments celebrating Abe's death are not appropriate at this time and will be deleted).
Japan's former Prime Minister Abe, was shot in the back with a shotgun while giving a street address in Nara City, Nara prefecture on July 8, 2022. Abe was rushed to a hospital about 30 minutes away and is said to be in "very critical condition" having been shot in the upper left side of his back while facing away from the shooter who was standing on the street about 30 feet away. The shooter has been identified as 41 year old Tetsuya Yamagami, a former marine with the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force. So far, the Japan news outlets have not provided any information on the possible motives for the shooting.
