1.
Es geht wohl zu der Sommerzeit,
der Winter fährt dahin,
mancher Soldat zu Felde leit,
wie ich berichtet bin.
Zu Fuß und auch zu Pferd,
wie man nur ihr begehrt,
ganz munter,
besunder die beste Reiterei,
ein ganze werte Ritterschaft,
Fußvolk ist auch dabei.
2.
Unser Hauptmann der mahnet auf,
dazu rührt man das Spiel.
Alsdann so zeucht der ganze Hauf,
's ist unser aller Will,
greifen den Feind stark an;
da sieht man manchen Mann
mit Schießen, mit Spießen
ritterlich fechten frei.
Uns kommt zu Hülf also geschwind
die löblich Reiterei.
3.
Wann dann der Kampf vorrüber ist,
zieht man dem Lager zu,
sieht man was übrig ist zur Frist
und hat die Weil kein Ruh;
erst geht das Klagen an:
Wo ist blieben mein G'span?
Sie haben begraben,
ihn funden tot allein.
Hilft nichts! Es ist einmal gewiß:
Es muß gestorben sein.

English Translation:
1.
It will be summer soon
The winter is over
Many a soldier moves into the field
as i was told.
on foot and on horseback,
as one could wish for,
particularly lively,
among them, the best cavalry
a whole dear knighthood,
Foot soldiers are also there.
2.
Our captain encourages us
drums and fifes sound to that.
Then the whole troop moves into battle,
it is the will of all of us
we attack the enemy heavily;
there you see many a man
with muskets, with pikes
in a knighly fight.
We are supported soon
by the glorious cavalry.
3.
When the fight is over
one moves back to the camp,
there you see who is left at that time
and one finds no rest;
Then the lamentation begins:
Where is my comrade?
they buried him
they found him dead alone.
It does not matter! Because one thing is certain:
Everyone has to die once!
