Serenity - Far from home (English Lyrics)

Bartoloemeu Dias was arguably the first figure of the european age of exploration. In 1487, years before Columbus' voyage to America, Dias set sail on the Man of war "São Cristóvão" (Saint Christopher) southwards down the coast of Africa reaching its southernmost tip, which he named "The cape of storms" which was later renamed "The cape of good hope"
This discovery sent shockwaves across Europe. A fully seabound route from Europe to the orient that made the silk road completely obselete. No longer would European merchants need to pay excessive taxes to get through Ottoman Turkey and Persia. The travelling merchants from the east who charged additional money for their services could be completely bypassed to go straight to the centre of the spice trade in India and the expensive silk trade in China.
But Bartolomeu never made it there. After reaching the eastern side of Africa, his crew mutinied and refused to sail onward, forcing him to return to Portugal with them. He attempted another voyage in 1500 but his ship ran into a Storm around the aptly named Cape of storms and sank with all hands.
