Petite Suite, L. 65 by Claude Debussy

Debussy completed this suite originally for piano duet in 1889 with the premiere performance being given in February the same year in Paris with Debussy as one of the performers. It is likely the work was a commission piece on behalf of publisher and fellow pianist Jacques Durand who was the other performer at the premiere. The work was orchestrated by fellow composer and friend of Debussy, Henri Büsser, under the direction of Debussy in 1907.

The suite is comprised of four movements:
I. En bateau (sailing): Andantino
II. Cortège (Retinue): Moderato
III. Menuet: Moderato
IV. Ballet: Allegro giusto

LESS
