I decided to make a video with this game since it is already 30 years old. Unlike most people,i didn't grew up with the home release, i actually first played Super Contra with the Arcade version featured in this video. and while it's short in comparison to the home console version it is still a fairly fun game, though the controls are a bit different cause you can actually make bigger jumps by pressing up. there's also the option of upgrading your weapon unlike the home version since that feature is absent.and also the trayectory of your projectiles when you shoot in diagonals is better i think, because when you change the direction of your shots they don't go into that direction immediately, thus allowing you to kill certain enemies that are out of the direction you're shooting at.
The graphics are certainly more colourful and detailed than the home version, however that doesn't mean they're look nice all the time.if there's something to notice is that for some reason this game loves to use the grey colour a lot, and in most cases it doesn't look good or consistant. a darker tone of grey would've been better in my opinion.(EDIT)They made the in-game colours brighter to compensate the dark display in the monitors used in these arcade games.
The sound however is better than the home version in terms of hardware.like many arcade games from the late 80's this game uses FM sound, but it also uses a lot of sampled audio which is a great addition for the music, and it also allows for some awesome explosion effects and voice clips that sound fairly good quality for it's time.
