"The only way you can measure a pandemic is in excess mortality. No one is using that measure, but its the only one that matters. In 2020 around 32000 people died in Ireland, in 2018 it was 32,000. The 2018 flu season was severe, but it went by and no one even noticed, and we did not lockdown.
Sweden's death rate was essentially the same for 2020 as Ireland-- and they never shut down, schools were open, shopping malls open, no lockdowns. There is always much much more deaths from societal lockdowns then from Covid. We did an intervention that caused more suffering and death than any saving it made. So that is never going to change for the rest of time. If lockdown is successful and you do flatten the curve, the suppression of community immunity in the healthy during that period will cause granny to be at greater risk the next time the virus triggers in the next season. In other words, the lockdown will even maximize Covid-19 deaths over the longer term.
Lockdown is proven now to be a useless intervention.
