1. d4 b6 2. Bf4
{This guy is new today at our club .. the competition manager decided a game with me, probably to create a nice introduction .. well, I started rather timid to let him show his strength and talent .. I set the board on Fire : }
Bb7 3. e3 e6
{Before the evening started, I gave Avgerinos some info about a chess club : we do "touch play", which means : when you touch a piece, you should move it .. Chess is a sport .. no words are spoken, it's a battle of ideas .. Avgerinos told me he likes to play the "London System" with White, which happened in this game, but also the Dutch Defence when playing Black .. in this game we have some of both .. whenever you play against an unkown opponent you can only guess their strength and knowledge .. i must not lose .. i like to drink beer, but never during my games ..}
4. Nf3 Be7 5. Nbd2 f5 6. Bd3 Nf6 7. h3
{Until here White plays a perfect London game .. let's see his continuation .. will he castle? Shall I castle?}
a6
{Preparing d6 to kick Ne5, but i do not want any check on b5 ..}
8. c3
{A typical London move, and now White can play Qc2 to empower e4 .. so : }
Ne4 9. Be5
{I started wondering if this guy is really strong, or I just let him play obvious good moves .. here I have a simple solid solution to guard my g7 pawn by playing Bf6, but after serious calculations i decided to play weird and test both of us ..}
Rg8?! 10. g4
{White continues in great London style, trying to open the g-file, although White did not yet castle short .. but i also continued my story : }
d6! 11. gxf5!?
{White sacrifices a piece for an attack .. I saw this coming, but I thought I could defend it all .. }
Nxd2 12. Kxd2 dxe5 13. Nxe5 Kf8 14. Qh5 Qe8 15. Qxh7
{White plays the optimal line i calculated .. it's scary, but i really thought i would survive and win .. White is a piece down but has the initiative and an attack, but Black can overcome the light-square weaknesses ..}
Nd7 16. Ng6+ Kf7
{Only move .. it's almost mate, almost ..}
17. Bc4 Bd5! 18. fxe6+ Bxe6 19. Bxe6+ Kxe6 20. Nf4+ Kd6
{During my 9...Rg8 meditation I saw the weird King escape route over square d6 and maybe finally land on b7 ..}
21. Qe4 Qf7
{Something must have gone wrong for White, you would think a win / mate was there ..}
22. Rhg1 g5 23. Nd3 Qd5
{When I accept to exchange pieces or even Queens, I enter an endgame with one extra piece to fight 3 pawns .. that's equal material but Black is better, I think. However, White does not want to trade Queens yet : }
24. Qg4 Nf6 25. Qg3+ Kc6 26. Qe5 Qxe5 27. Nxe5+ Kb7 28. Ng4
{White has a difficult game now .. in this endgame his pawns can be powerful but they also are a shield to the White King .. so, how to handle the position? White started to make some minor moves ..}
Nd7 29. Nh6 Rh8 30. Nf5 Bf6 31. Rg3 Raf8 32. e4 Bd8 33. Ne3
{Here something special happened .. in fact White played 33.Ra1-f1 but after touching Ne5 ! I claimed moving that Knight, it's an important chess rule, which i also mentioned to Avgerinos before this club game started : "touch play" is a fair rule, made FOR each chess player, to keep focus, not AGAINST a player : you know you DID touch that piece, it's about really winning, and I wanted to win now : }
Rxf2+ 34. Kd3 Rxb2
{It's over .. but White does not give up yet, and that's OK : }
35. Nc4 Rh2 36. a4 R8xh3 37. Rg1 Nf6 38. Nd2 Rxg3+ 39. Rxg3 Rxd2+ 40. Ke3 Rc2 41. Rxg5 Rxc3+ 42. Kf4 Nxe4 43. Rg8 Ng5 44. Ke5 Re3+ 45. Kd5 Be7 46. Rg7 c6+ 47. Kc4 b5+ 48. axb5 axb5# 0-1
A magical game !
Thanks Avgerinos !
