Defamation: Anti-Semitism, the Movie [2009 documentary by Yoav Shamir | ADL & Jewish victimhood]
Jewish, Israeli director Yoav Shamir travels the world in this excellent yet controversial, feature length film interviewing people on what constitutes "anti-semitism".
A major focus of the film is it's criticism of the ADL, which Jew Abe Foxman denounced after the movie's release. At the time of the film's release, Abe Foxman was the face of the Anti-Defamation League, a position which he held from 1987. The film points out how the ADL has an annual budget of $70 million to censor free speech and target individuals that speak honestly and openly about Jews.
In the film, Yoav Shamir is given unprecedented access by Foxman to ADL headquarters in Manhattan. A number of scenes throughout, feature the ADL chairman boasting about his ability to use his organization's overwhelming power and wealth to stifle free speech. Perhaps the most damning scene, shows Abe at a gathering in Ukraine, attempting to downplay the Holodomor–or European holocaust, largely perpetrated by Jews. He explains to the special adviser to the Ukrainian President, how he doesn't want to create an our genocide vs. your genocide thing.
In one hilarious scene, an ADL spokesman explains to the camera, without a hint of irony, how a joke or denigrating statement may lead to genocide.
During the beginning of the film, the director's grandmother is recorded at her home in Jerusalem. "We are enthusiastic Zionists," she exclaims. "We are not going to replace the country or it's people". Shamir failed to ask his grandma's opinion on her people's push to replace White people in their own homelands.
Other scenes feature interviews with various other individuals in the Jewish community who tell how their people use the Holocaust narrative and perpetual victimhood to drum up sympathy with gentiles and gain reperations for Israel and the Jewish diaspora.
The film earned a number of awards and nominations, including Best Documentary Feature Film at the 2009 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
