Jungle Boot Unboxing

Finally got a nice pair of jungle boots with the Panama sole for wet summer slogging and hikes in the streams. This is the glorious unboxing.

These are definitely field boots, the Panama soles create pressure points when walking on hard surfaces that can cause foot pain. If you plan on that type of use get the JBs with Vibram soles.

A few considerations for using jungle boots on a hike or backpacking. These boots were designed to allow your feet (not the boots) an opportunity to dry out after getting them wet over a duration of time. The issue mesh insole helps by allowing air to circulate under wet feet/socks. Of course changing socks often is part of the strategy in keeping your feet healthy. You want to get your feet out of those wet boots, apply some foot powder and let them dry out as often as possible.
Issue insoles however don't provide much cushion, you might be tempted to change them out for something that will do a better job of protecting your feet from the pounding of the trail. That's fine if you will be walking on hard surfaces, staying dry or are just going on a day hike. BUT if you will be getting your feet wet on a longer trip those nice cushy insoles may act as a sponge holding in water and preventing the air from circulating. The result could be immersion foot. So think about the circumstances of your journey and weigh the pros and cons of the different insoles. They don't weigh much, you could just bring extras along like you would socks.
