Jesus Stands Tall As Peter Falls - Matthew 26:57-75

There is so much to see and learn. To learn the greatest lesson, we need to keep our eyes on Jesus and see his poise, focus and strength. He stood in the middle of a storm of chaos and madness and was unflinching in his resolve.

Also discussed:

• Jesus never lost perspective on who he was, what he was doing and what he would accomplish: our salvation.
• Throughout his trial there is a clear contrast between Jesus remaining calm and all the rest losing control.
• Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas. They functioned as co-high priests but, Caiaphas was the official high priest.
• There is nothing legitimate about these proceedings. They broke all the rules.
• The court proceedings make it clear the Sanhedrin had been rushed into action. Their case was not ready. Remember, Jesus had moved up the time table. He was in control.
• Jesus was put under oath by the High Priest. Peter took an oath on his own.
• The titles "Messiah" and "Christ" had been turned into political titles for the one who would kick the Romans out of Israel. The Jews knew that and so did the Romans!
• When we allow fear to have power over us we make this world big and our God small.
• Fear effects psychology. Once you are in a state of fear, everything seems worse. Everything is more frightening.
• Peter had been so bold when he promised he would never deny Jesus. Upon whom was he relying? Himself. That is why he fell.
• Be glad your life is not recorded in the Bible. How terrifying a thought that is!
