FOX: Sri Lanka Bombings Death Toll Rises To 290 In ‘Brand-New Type Of Terrorism’
Eight explosions, including a suicide bombing, destroyed three churches and three hotels throughout the country of Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday in what is being called a “brand-new type of terrorism.” The terrorist attacks killed at least 290 people and injured another 500 with the death toll expected to rise. Among the dead were two US citizens with British passports. 7 suspects were arrested in connection to the attacks and it is being speculated that a radical Islamist group led by Mohomad Saharan known as the Nations Thawahid Jaman is responsible for the attacks. Christians are a minority group in Sri Lanka making up less than 10% of the population. The main city that was affected was the capital city of Colombo. Sri Lanka police had been warned a week earlier of suicide bomb threats that were being made to Christian churches.
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama reacted to the bombings via Twitter but they both forgot to mention that it was Christians who were being attacked. Hillary Clinton said, “On this holy weekend for many faiths, we must stand united against hatred and violence. I'm praying for everyone affected by today's horrific attacks on Easter worshippers and travelers in Sri Lanka.” Obama tweeted, “The attacks on tourists and Easter worshippers in Sri Lanka are an attack on humanity. On a day devoted to love, redemption, and renewal, we pray for the victims and stand with the people of Sri Lanka.” President Trump also tweeted about the bombings on Sunday, but made a typo where he wrote that 138 million people had died. He corrected the tweet and said, “138 people have been killed in Sri Lanka, with more than 600 badly injured, in a terrorist attack on churches and hotels. The United States offers heartfelt condolences to the great people of Sri Lanka. We stand ready to help!”
