Cutting the Corporate Internet down to size

Something needs to be done about the Internet giants gobbling up everything else under giant holding companies and taking over the majority of services on the net. Some say regulating the internet more tightly or even nationalizing these companies is the answer, but I think that this would only herald more centralization and government control of the internet. There shouldn't be day to day micro-management by government. Instead we should use anti-monopoly law and trust bust these companies, splitting up their holdings and dispersing the ownership to make the market more competitive. Giving things a stir will help catalyze turn over in the ecosystem and lead to more ideological diversity in the ownership of various internet services. To some degree, network effects will always mean that centralized social media is attractive to the typical person, but we must at least decentralize their ownership structure and ensure they can't use their size to gobble up all other services and rule over the entire internet. Social media companies and search companies should be kept within their bounds.
