France: 'Yellow Vests' continue demos in Paris despite protest ban on Champs-Elysees
'Yellow Vest' activists continued their demonstrations in Paris on Saturday, despite a ban on protests along the Champs-Elysees, which was announced by French Prime Minister Edouard Phillippe after violence erupted last weekend.
Footage shows demonstrators peacefully rallying on Trocadero square, next to the Eiffel Tower. According to reports, hundreds of others gathered on the Denfert-Rochereau plaza located in southern Paris.
"Macron's regime is only held by repression and the media. The democracy is in danger, we are waiting for syndicates and the left wing to call for demonstration, to defend what remains of the social rights," said one of the activists from the Trocadero square.
"I'm not for the violence at all, but if you look, if there is no violence, we can't be heard. That means that there is obviously a problem," added another protester.
During the 18th round of nationwide 'Yellow Vest' demonstrations on March 16, 60 people, including 17 police officers, were injured in the French capital when protesters smashed up and burned shops on the Champs-Elysees.
