In the narrative, Lucian and fellow travelers are on a ship that gets caught up in a whirlwind and taken to the Moon, where they embroil themselves in a war between the Moon- and Sun-king over colonization of the Morning Star. The Sun-king’s army blocks out the sunlight and clouds over the moon, and thereby wins the war. Lucian follows with a description of life on the Moon and how it differs from life on Earth.
