Mitch McConnell Warns House Dems: ‘Presidential Harassment’ Of Trump Is Not a Good Strategy 11/7/18

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) held a press conference on midterm election results on Wednesday — during which he compared a possible investigation of President Trump‘s tax records to the attempted impeachment of Bill Clinton.
With Democrats seizing control of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, it’s quite possible they will use the new balance of power to pursue new levels of scrutiny on the Trump Administration. McConnell was asked what Senate Republicans intend to do if the House subpoenas Trump’s tax records, and he responded by riffing about “presidential harassment” that would come from increased White House oversight.
“The whole issue of presidential harassment is interesting. I remember when we tried it in the late 90s, we impeached President Clinton. His numbers went up and ours went down. We underperformed in the next election. So the Democrats in the House will have to decide just how much presidential harassment they think is good strategy. I’m not so sure it will work for them.”
