John Ashcroft & Robert Mueller Media Announcement (9/11 Investigation) (9-28-2001)

U.S Attorney General John Ashcroft provides some details to the 9/11 attacks. Over 480 people have been arrested/detained and over 17,532 tips from their hotline. Ashcroft also makes public for the first time regarding letters from 3 hijackers. One of them was a 4 page letter from Mohammed Atta. Atta's suitcase did not make it in his connecting flight at Logan which was where the letter was found. Nawaf al-Hazmi also had a second copy of the letter found in his rental car left behind at Dulles airport, and a third letter was found at the crash site from Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The letter, which was in Arabic, was an instructed manual to the operatives which contained religious traditions to be carried out the night before and during the day of the attacks.

Note: One reporter asks Ashcroft & Mueller regarding who was primary responsible for the attack, and was it solely Osama Bin Laden. Mueller answers it as to not focus on not just one individual but to many terrorism entities around the world. Another reporter asks if any of these hijackers from Afghanistan. Ashcroft had no answer, Mueller was rather flippant and leaves with the lingering notion that the investigation is still ongoing.
